A Golfer’s Guide to Callander and the Surrounding Areas

The small town of Callander, situated in the heart of the Trossachs, is a paradise for many including hillwalkers, wild swimmers, and history buffs. However, this charming little town is also an ideal destination for golfers with many stunning golf courses within short driving distance from the town centre. In this blog, we will discuss the most unique and challenging golf courses in the local area.

Callander Golf Club
Callander Golf Club is one of Scotland’s historic gems. The course was established in 1890 and initially designed by Old Tom Morris, a pioneer of golf course architecture. Over the years, it has become a challenging yet enjoyable course for rookie and experienced golfers alike. The 18-hole course takes full advantage of the natural landscapes of the area, with undulating fairways and well-placed bunkers to keep players on their toes. Not to mention the stunning views over to Ben Ledi – the highest mountain in the local area. The course offers an exciting mixture of par 3s, 4s, and 5s including the 15th hole which is one of the most famous par 3s in Scotland. Callander Golf Club is situated less than 10 minutes away from Leny Estate by car, making it the perfect course to have a go at during your stay with us!

Aberfoyle Golf Club
Situated at the foot of the Menteith Hills, Aberfoyle Golf Club offers a captivating golfing experience in stunning surroundings. Another historic course, it was also established in 1890 and designed by James Braid, a renowned golf course architect. Aberfoyle Golf Club offers a short yet challenging 9-hole course, ideal for both high and low handicap players. The 7th hole is a particularly memorable par 3 which requires a precise shot over a natural ravine to a well-guarded green. It is situated around 20 minutes away from Leny Estate by car.

Killin Golf Club
Killin Golf Club is located in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, offering a picturesque golfing experience with views of the surrounding mountains and Loch Tay. It was established in 1911 and is another short 9-hole course but has a lot of character! It is a challenging course owing to the varied terrain, strategically placed bunkers and the stand out 5th hole, a par 4 which is a demanding approach over the River Dochart, requiring precision and skill. Killin Golf Club is a little further afield than the others, being a 46-minute drive from Leny Estate. However, it is a worthwhile trip for any golfer visiting the area.

Dunblane New Golf Club
Dunblane New Golf Club is a very popular golfing destination in the Perthshire town of Dunblane, only 30 minutes’ drive from Leny Estate. The elevated position of the golf course ensures stunning scenery from every hole, including views across the Forth Valley and the Campsie Fells. There are also views towards Stirling Castle, and the peaks of Ben Lomond and Ben Ledi as you tee off at this testing course. The 11th hole, known as “The Whins”, is memorable yet exciting par 3 requiring a precise shot over a natural valley.

Whether you’re a seasoned golfer looking for your next challenge, or a novice looking to enjoy a round in one of Scotland’s most picturesque settings, the Callander area will provide an unforgettable experience.
