Hogmanay 2022 Activities for the whole family!
If there is one thing that the Scots are good at it’s throwing a party, and Hogmanay might just be their crowning achievement! The Scottish New Year celebrations are legendary around the world and with good reason.
Hogmanay occurs every year on New Year’s Eve and celebrations are always going on – especially in the bigger cities. Edinburgh puts on a 3-day long celebration for the occasion with live concerts, street parties, and firework shows. Glasgow also put on a multitude of exciting events for Hogmanay and the whole country really comes to life during these celebrations. Every year, tourists flock to the cities to see the spectacular events. If you are staying at Leny Estate this New Years, make sure to join in on the fun!
Where did Hogmanay come from?
It is believed that Hogmanay stems from the Pagan holiday Winter Solstice, and celebrates the change of the year. Hogmanay was always a very relevant and important holiday in Scotland. For a very long time, Scots were not allowed or able to celebrate Christmas, which meant that all of the celebration efforts went into a different day of the year: Hogmanay, the final day of the year. Scottish towns would celebrate in many different ways, but the celebrations were always focused on purifying and cleansing for the year ahead, and doing small things to ensure a good year ahead. Today, Hogmanay has become a huge celebration that the Scots are happy to celebrate with friends, new and old, that come from near and far! So this year, why not join in the fun and celebrate your first Hogmanay? Let’s take a look at what’s going on around Leny Estate this year!
