How to Spend the Perfect Autumn Staycation at Leny Estate

Autumn is one of our favourite seasons here at Leny Estate, and it’s one of the best seasons to visit us for a peaceful escape into nature. When the air is crisp and the trees surrounding the estate burst into a stunning combination of orange, red, and gold, Leny Estate offers you all the comfort and seclusion you need for a dreamy autumn getaway. Here are our top tips for making the most of your stay with us.

Morning Walks Through Nature

Leny Estate is perfectly situated in the heart of the Trossachs National Park, meaning there are miles of serene walking trails on our doorstep. Start your day with a gentle stroll along the banks of the River Teith through the Callander Meadows. Here you will see a plethora of wildlife and wildflowers, with views of Ben Ledi and the surrounding mountains to admire as you walk. If you’re feeling more adventurous, there are plenty of more challenging hikes in the area. On a chilly yet sunny autumnal morning, a scenic walk up Ben Ledi will reveal breathtaking views of the Scottish countryside. Ben A’an offers a shorter and easier ascent while still offering unbelievable views over Loch Katrine and the hills of the Trossachs.

It is important to remember that we only recommend hillwalking in good weather conditions and advise that weather on the mountains can change very quickly at this time of year so caution must be taken when planning your hike.

Autumnal Picnic by the Water
A delicious picnic by one of the many stunning lochs on our doorstep sounds like the perfect crisp, sunny autumn afternoon. Loch Lubnaig, Loch Katrine, and Loch Venacher are all a short drive from the estate and have plenty of scenic spots for you to lay your blanket, unpack your treats, and take in the stunning views that surround. Alternatively, we have our own picnic area here at Leny Estate next to the playpark which is great for the children. Our picnic area has panoramic views of the countryside that surrounds the estate which makes it the perfect place for a family or couples’ picnic.

Afternoon at Doune Castle or Callander
The Callander area is full of interesting and historical attractions such as Doune Castle, which is located a short drive from Leny Estate. You can step back in time and discover the history of this medieval fortress, which has been featured in many famous productions such as Outlander and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The castle is especially beautiful in the autumn with the grounds covered in a blanket of colourful leaves.

For a more leisurely option, head into the nearby town of Callander, where the quaint streets are filled with shops, cafes, and bakeries. You can warm up with a hot chocolate or soup, and then browse the town’s local goods for unique souvenirs to remember your autumn getaway.

Have a Cosy Evening In
One of the joys of staying at Leny Estate is the flexibility of self-catering, which allows you to cook up your favourite comfort foods in your own kitchen in your accommodation. After spending a day exploring the local area, return to your lodge or cottage for a cosy evening in. Curl up with a blanket and enjoy the warmth as you indulge in the hearty meal you prepared in the well-equipped kitchen. Autumn evenings are perfect for indulging in seasonal meals such as stews, roast dinners, cooked vegetables, and baked goods filled with cinnamon and spices. So, pour yourself a glass of wine or a warm cider, and savour a homemade meal with the estate’s peaceful surroundings as your backdrop.

An autumnal staycation at Leny Estate offers the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation. Whether you’re taking a scenic stroll in nature, exploring local attractions, or simply enjoying a quiet evening in your accommodation, our idyllic location provides everything you need for a peaceful getaway. So, pack your autumn essentials, and head to Leny Estate to experience the beauty of the Scottish countryside in autumn.
